Riverport Chorus, a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, is dedicated to musical excellence through teaching and sharing the joy of four-part acapella harmony. To Riverport members, harmony matters in our chorus community as well as in our music.
Riverport Chorus, a member of Sweet Adelines International, is a dynamic, award winning chorus dedicated to musical excellence through teaching and sharing our joy of four-part a cappella harmony.
FRAMEWORK: Where are we now? Riverport is a thriving and dynamic Sweet Adelines chapter and a solidly performing chorus (although we always aim higher). Overall, this chapter of Sweet Adelines is healthy and actively engaged in ramping up our collective and individual musical skills and our membership, while enhancing the welcoming, inclusive, and mutually encouraging musical sisterhood for which we are known.
Our chapter functions well administratively, piloted by an experienced team leader and managed by an elected team of skilled and willing volunteers.
Riverport’s certified director, blessed with a multi-generational legacy and decades of personal barbershop/acapella experience, excels at combining efficiency, creativity, positivity, and technical expertise to our rehearsals and performances.
PERSONALITY: Who are we? Riverport is a long-time Sweet Adelines chapter (part of Region 3/Midwest Harmony), historically and currently marked by a focus on musical skills, as well as chorus-wide encouragement, energy, and community engagement. (The chorus celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2024.) This chapter is also marked by a spirit of determination, demonstrated by its longevity and its solid participation and continuation during the recent pandemic years. Riverport members across the board enjoy participating in Sweet Adelines annual competitions and educational programming, but we also enjoy performing for local events and celebrations.
Additionally, the chorus offers an annual music competition/scholarship program for young women in high school. This program, known as Diva Quest, invites teen vocal music students to audition via video. Ten finalists receive expert mentoring and training to prepare for the live finals show, including judges and audience voting, with the top winners receiving scholarship funds for their higher education pursuits.
VALUES: What do we believe? Riverport fosters a general sense of fellowship and encouragement. We believe in mutual acceptance, mentoring, and ongoing learning among all our members. Our objectives include musical excellence, coupled with authentic friendships.
We welcome potential members of all races, religions, ethnicities, and sexual preferences.
Where are we going? Individually and as a team, Riverport members strive for continuing improvement of our vocal production, visual expression, performance skills, chorus-wide teamwork, solid community, and more. The chorus, which enjoyed participation and placings on Sweet Adelines’ international stage in the past, hopes to earn this privilege again in the future. Plus, we pursue opportunities to enrich our local area musically and to further promote the chorus through paid and pro bono performances in our communities.
Who do we hope to be? Riverport Chorus is a well-known chapter of Sweet Adelines and is widely respected as such. Our members interface well with those in other chapters, particularly in our own region. We hope to continue this trend, while focusing actively on building our chorus and working towards continual advancement toward our Riverport goals.
We're always looking for women who love to sing to join our ranks! Whether you're 19 or 90, a trained musician, or someone who just loves singing in the shower, we want to meet you at one of our weekly rehearsals. After visiting us for about six weeks, we can then audition you for membership in the chorus. Riverport is more than just an a cappella ensemble - it is a family. We love getting together each week, and sharing friendships as well as great music.
We sing, we dance, we laugh out loud, all on a Monday night!
