Here are a number of frequently-asked questions that we get:
How much personal time will it take?
In addition to weekly rehearsals throughout the year, there are two annual shows; Diva Quest annual scholarship program in January or February and a Cabaret in the fall. We also participate in a Sweet Adelines regional competition in the spring of each year, and have an annual weekend retreat to focus on preparing for competition. We tend to perform in and around our area several times per year for local festivals, business events, charitable events, as well as participating in Christmas and arts festival events.
What is the cost?
Our monthly dues are $35. This covers our music, coaching, directors and many other things. New members have some first time expenses. These include Regional dues ($60) and International dues ($100). There may be some additional expenses for costumes, shoes, make up, etc.
How to become a new member?
We ask you to attend four to six rehearsals to learn about us. On your second visit, you will be given sheet music and a cd of a song to learn. At your fourth or fifth visit you will be asked to make a recording of this song to be evaluated for membership.
Do I need to be a great singer?
Riverport Chorus wants members who are good singers. This is why we make music education a vital part of every rehearsal. Training and encouraging the development of singers of all abilities is one of our goals. We expect prospective members to share that mindset.
How do I learn the songs?
We have great tools to help us learn our music. There is a members only section of the website. You will be able to log on here as soon as you become a member. You will be able to print your own copy of the music and listen to and download learning tracks to emulate. We have section leaders to help. We ask members to make use of a digital recorder at rehearsals to help learn music.
